Make a choice.
Choose to nourish the survivor in you and in others.
Find your “inner-thriver.” Ignore your “inner-victim.”
Look at the Five Steps again and again. And always be on the lookout for these.
The five hallmarks of victimhood:
1. Living in the past (Do you talk about the past more than the present or
future?)
2. Self-pity (Do you hear yourself whining a lot? Feeling sorry for yourself?)
3. Resentment (When was the last time you celebrated another’s good fortune?)
4. Blaming (Do you point fingers and avoid taking responsibility for your
behavior?)
5. Taking (Do you act selfishly, expecting more than you are willing to give?)
When we exhibit these symptoms, we distance ourselves from others—and from our
own true potential.
But we can climb out of the victimhood trap, simply by tracking how we think and
speak.
Be a survivor. Take charge. When in doubt, activate any one of the Five Steps.
Find the thriver within!
